The Government published standards and targets for healthcare organisations in National Standards, Local Action: Health and Social Care Standards and Planning Framework 2005/2006 - 2007/2008, in July 2004. The Healthcare Commission has responsibility for assessing the performance of NHS organisations against the existing and new national targets as set out in this document. These assessments form two components of our annual health check in 2006/2007.
2006/2007 will be the second year of the annual health check. In September 2006, we published our method of assessment for 2006/2007, formed from extensive consultation. This document can be viewed through the link below:
The annual health check in 2006/2007
Assessment of performance against the existing national targets is one component of the quality of services part of the Healthcare Commission's 2006/2007 annual health check performance rating. The existing national targets assess whether levels of service set through the 2003-2006 planning round are being maintained.
Assessment of performance against the new national targets is a further component of the quality of services part of the Healthcare Commission's 2006/2007 annual health check performance rating.
