Acute and specialist trusts overview

The indicators that we will use in our assessment of performance against the existing national targets are available via the indicator links on the left hand side of this page. They include details of why the indicator is included (the 'rationale'), the data source, the period of time assessed by the indicator (the 'data period') and the technical specification (the 'construction').

The existing national target indicators relevant to acute and specialist trusts are:

  • All cancers: one month diagnosis (decision to treat) to treatment
  • All cancers: two month GP urgent referral to treatment
  • All cancers: two week wait
  • Cancelled operations and those not admitted within 28 days
  • Convenience and choice - elective (inpatient and daycase) and outpatient booking
  • Convenience and choice - provider information in place to support choice
  • Delayed transfers of care
  • Number of inpatients waiting longer than the standard
  • Number of outpatients waiting longer than the standard
  • Patients waiting longer than three months for revascularisation
  • Thrombolysis - 60 minute call to needle time
  • Total time in A&E: four hours or less
  • Waiting times for rapid access chest pain clinic

Hybrid Trusts

Hybrid trusts (those healthcare organisations which provide functions of more than one type, for example, primary care trusts which also provide mental health services) should refer to the indicator lists for all relevant trust types. Their assessment will be based on all of the indicators for each function they deliver.
